Pennies-2

The End of the Penny
& What It Means for You

Everything you need to know about the penny phase-out, how it affects your banking, and how you can turn spare change into impact.

The U.S. Department of the Treasury has stopped minting pennies, but existing pennies will remain legal tender for the foreseeable future. Digital payments: including debit, ACH, and online transactions, are unaffected and will continue to process to the exact cent.

Penny Availability at Falcon National Bank:
  • Penny orders limited to $5 per order for businesses, as supplies allow
  • Full boxes or bags of pennies will no longer be available
Impacts you will start to see as the penny phase-out advances:
For Businesses:
  • Manage change inventory and review updated change-order limits
  • Deposits of pennies are still accepted
  • Check cashing continues to the exact cent while supplies last
  • Review cash-handling procedures and prepare for rounding
For Consumers:
  • Cash transactions may begin rounding to the nearest nickel; digital payments remain exact
  • We will continue cashing checks to the exact penny for the foreseeable future
